MANCINI SLAMS NASRI
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has taken the tough stance on midfielder Samir Nasri by saying that he would give the former Arsenal man a punch in the face for not being consistent with his performances. The £ 24 million signing from Arsenal was at his best during the weekend against Newcastle, as he helped City win the match 4-0. After the match, Mancini criticised him by saying that a player with his ability should be performing at this level in every match. Instead, Nasri has been lethargic and disinterested in recent weeks.
As a result, he has lost his first-team place and has constantly found himself on the bench. This is not the first time Nasri has produced a magnificent performance against Newcastle, as the midfielder was once again at his best in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. There have also been suggestions that Mancini has followed with the captain, Vincent Kompany, due to his decision to play for the Belgian national team after having just returned from injury. The two failed to make a contact in the match, thus prompting suggestions that one or the other will leave the club at the end of the season.
Mancini, though rejected such speculation by praising Kompany. “I would like to give him a punch. Because a player like him should play like today always. Always. Every game. Maybe one game sometimes he can play badly but with his quality that is all. I don’t know what the difference was today. I can’t understand sometimes a player with his quality doesn’t play like today every game. I think that the second year is always difficult to win again,” said Mancini. He also gave up the title after admitting that City have left themselves with too much to do an end of the campaign.

RODWELL BACK TO HIS BEST
The Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell arrived from the Premier league rivals Everton for £ 12 million in the summer, but he has played very little football for the Premier league champions due to a succession of injury problems. It had already been his major problem when he was at Everton. Rodwell was linked with every major club like Manchester United and Chelsea. He was even spoken in the same breath as the former Everton youth team product Wayne Rooney, but injuries have curtailed his career over the last few years. He has recently been making a few first-team appearances for City.
However, his hopes of finishing his debut season on a high appeared to have ended following yet another injury. Rodwell had to be taken off in the 1-0 victory over Aston Villa recently. It appeared that the injury could well end his season, but the midfielder has said that he is confident of making a swift comeback. The 22-year-old has primarily suffered a hamstring problems in the last few years, and it was once again the problem hitting him. Rodwell, though, has said that he hopes to be back in training in a few weeks time unlike before. The player spent several months on the sidelines with the same problem earlier in the season.
“Obviously you don’t want to tempt fate but I’m not looking at this as a lengthy absence and I hope to be back [in training] in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I can play my part in the run-in and help us win some silverware and end what has been a frustrating season on a high. I felt a jabbing pain just before I took a shot at Villa Park and I knew straight away I had a problem,” said the midfielder, who had an excellent match against Chelsea recently.
